Meelia Kelly was the younger sister of Kinngait superstar Sheojuk Etidlooie and, like her sister, she only began to create artworks relatively late in life. Known for her use of vibrant colour and exaggerated shapes, Kelly’s all too short career was nonetheless a significant contribution to the Cape Dorset annual print collections. Her image Hoot was the cover image of the 2006 print catalogue. This wonderful etching and aquatint employs a much warmer colour palette than usual, and to great effect. The warm colours seemingly indicate life as well as the life-giving nature of the caribou as a major food source for the Inuit.
