Palvik, when asked by McCarthy from where he drew his inspiration, explained that his works were "From life experiences and animals that I see on the land. I don't draw from my dreams; I don't draw scary animals or things like that; they're not real. I'm just not surrealistic" (op. cited, p. 23).
