Literature

Image reproduced in The Inuit Print, exh. cat., (Ottawa: National Museum of Man, 1977), pl. 60, reproduced p. 119.  Didactic text reads, "'We would often camp at Natsalik, a place about a week's journey from Cape Dorset, near many lakes.  It had the most beautiful drinking water, the most beautiful water I have ever found. We often went to Natsalik to hunt fish; and at Natsalik, too, there were many geese.' (Pitseolak in Eber, 1971: [36, 28]).  The word netsilik means 'with seals.'  Fresh water is found in a number of Arctic inland lakes.  The swimming creature in Pitseolak's image have an odd mixture of seal and fish characteristics." (op. cit., p. 118).
