While one of her contemporaries had garnered the title “The Audubon of The North,” Lucy Qinnuayuak was equally as adoring in her love of the north’s avian variety. Dozens upon dozens of Lucy’s prints highlighted the fanciful and playful spirit of arctic birds, and Bird Eating Berries is no exception. With their wings up and possibly caught by a breeze on the tundra, carefully placed and carved feathers flutter. This bird is enjoying one of the fleeting joys of an arctic summer, wild berries, as bright red pops from the page beneath them.
