Rather than concentrate almost exclusively on bears as he did in sculpture, Pauta Saila’s graphic work is richly varied despite the smaller output. Here we are treated to a charming portrait by Pauta, a mother figure bent at the waist and turned towards the viewer, small child in tow in her amaut, and her ulu at the ready. Both mother and child smile at the viewer, their faces punctuated in a bright orange against the furry texture of the amaut and boots. The scene has the feel of a candid moment, as if Pauta caught the subjects while at work and unaware, and they were delighted to see him.
