Renowned for their sense of play, often wrestling and chasing each other, the North American River Otter can be a regular sight in Northern Quebec. Long, thin bodies dive, burrow, twist, and turn, often in a frenetic manner that adds to their charm. This Otter Standing Guard highlights a slight curve to the spine as the otter stands up on short back legs, mouth open as if chittering a warning or greeting. Their occasional bravery towards approaching humans can sadly be blamed upon their near-sightedness, a consequence of vision that has adapted to underwater sight and has them get within a few feet of a boat or person before realizing it was a poor decision.
