Mother Lemming, Sheltering Her Young is a study in tenderness rendered through economy. The composition merges two forms into a single, seamless curve, the mother’s body arcing gently over the young in a gesture of both containment and care. It is not a sculpture of action but of presence. Their eyes, incised with minimal detail, suggest watchfulness rather than fear. The surface is well modulated and is heightened by the impact of each small etched line of whiskers, claws, and the contour of a flank. This is shelter as sculpture, affection made durable in stone.
