This striking example of an Inuit model is an exacting replica of a traditional Inuit kayak (qajaq), handcrafted to reflect the cultural and functional significance of these vessels. Like a seagoing kayak, the model is made from a wooden frame covered with a meticulously sewn sealskin covering. The kayak is replete with a full complement of hunting paraphernalia. While created as cultural artifacts, toys, or trade items, model kayaks embody Inuit craftsmanship and maritime heritage and serve to preserve traditional knowledge across generations.
