In this work, Glen Pollard constructs a bold, upward-reaching composition that captures the dynamic energy of the orca mid-breach. The arched back and soaring dorsal fin form a fluid arc that rises from a compact oval base, emphasizing the orca’s power and grace. Open space beneath the body adds a sense of lightness, almost as if the figure were breaching the surface. The finely incised formline design follows the natural contours of the body, creating visual continuity across the head, flippers, and flukes. Inlaid abalone eyes animate the whale’s gaze, while red pipestone accents at the pectoral joints introduce a controlled contrast. The smooth, dark surface of the argillite heightens the clarity of line and silhouette, allowing the form to command attention from every angle.
