This Tlingit berry basket, woven from natural and dyed spruce root and dates to the 1920s. It takes on a graceful, slightly conical form, its structure achieved through a finely executed twining technique. Subtle variations in colour enliven the surface, with dyed strands incorporated through false embroidery to create decorative patterning. Both utilitarian and expressive, the work reflects the technical mastery and aesthetic refinement characteristic of Tlingit basketry during the early twentieth century.
