Pitaloosie Saila creates a work of striking balance here, with the bird’s outstretched wings forming a vast arc that holds the viewer’s attention within its span in Brooding Owl. The title suggests both watchfulness and a depth of inward focus, as if the owl contains its strength within the symmetry of its form. Across the body, ink moves from almost amber honey into darker brown, a gradation that lends weight and dimension. Printed by Laisa Qudjuakju, the plumage is marked with hundreds of precise cuts, a surface of tiny strokes that evoke the downy softness of feathers against the unyielding clarity of eyes and beak.
