As a constant subject matter throughout his career, Bill Reid often portrayed the Killer Whale in a graceful arch, a static moment while leaping from the water. The bold black and red formline curves with the whale’s body, both in the gentle sweep of the fins, and the multiple faces throughout the whale’s form. The work is topped with a spouting blow hole, which is at once both factual signature to the creature, and an amusing punctuation point to the work as a whole.
