Ada Eyetoaq began carving in the early 1970s and quickly became one of Qamani’tuaq’s most respected women artists, shown in many solo and group exhibitions. She tried different media, but her stone sculptures of the human figure are the best known. In this work, a bird-human hybrid shaman sits with soles touching. Broad wings frame the torso while he sits with his soles touching. A bird familiar perches at the shoulder to tip the balance upward.
