In this lithograph, the artist’s control of the medium is evident in the clean planes of colour and the careful balance of open space. A river runs forward from the horizon, its pale surface guiding the eye between banks built from pooled lithographed ink. Those green and brown areas settle into mottled patches that read as newly forming vegetation. Above, the sky shifts from warm yellow at the horizon to deep blue overhead, a smooth transition that suggests air and distance. White landforms hold crisp edges against the thawing colours of spring.
