This drawing is an act of reverence disguised as observation. The artist’s devotion to realism borders on devotional. Every feather, every shaded contour, every talon gripping the rock feels meticulously earned. The subject, likely a gyrfalcon, stands alone, but its solitude is not one of absence. It is alert. It watches. It commands. Known to appear occasionally in the broader landscape around Kinngait, particularly in the summer months, the gyrfalcon is rare enough to be mythic and this rendering treats it as such. The pose is poised but not stiff. The bird meets the viewer’s gaze with something more than animal instinct. It looks back as if it knows it has been seen and is choosing to allow it.
