Luke Anguhadluq was in his sixties when he relocated to the settlement of Qamani’tuaq, after living a traditional lifestyle that included hunting and fishing. As such, representations of the animals that sustained his camp are represented in his artworks in abundance — quite literally so in Many Rabbits. Although there is serial repetition of a single motif in the present print, Many Rabbits continues in Anguhadluq’s tradition to depict his images devoid of any superfluous details. Here the numerous arctic hares, which are coloured by Hattie Amit'naaq in lively tones, are isolated even from one another. There is no interaction amongst the animals and they do not occupy any discernible space in relation to one another. Devoid of any narrative or hierarchical presentation, we are able to let our eyes wander to enjoy each of the individual, whimsically hued hares.
