This lovely print is probably not literally a seal hunting scene but more likely Kiakshuk’s idealized image of the result of a successful hunt. In other words, the three hunters have not rounded up a herd of eight seals! Conceptually it’s a brilliant visualization by Kiakshuk however, and the printmaker Ottochie has likewise beautifully distinguished between the actual hunters and their imagined (and hopefully captured) prey with his combination of stonecut and stencil technique.
