MUNGITOK KELLYPALIK (1940-2014) KINNGAIT (CAPE DORSET)
stonecut, 22 x 27.5 in (55.9 x 69.8 cm)
29/50
Mungitok was just seventeen when he became involved in the first graphics experiments in Cape Dorset. He is credited as the creator of five early prints, followed by another five in the inaugural 1959 collection, including the present Canada Geese. Unlike his other multi-bird contribution, Blue Geese on Snow, there is an attempt at spatial relationship between the subject and their environment that is defined by their overlapping forms and the variety of their scales.
