There is a simplicity and stoic-ness in Fishing Through Ice that is reminiscent of Luke Iksiktaaryuk's carved antler figures. The fish has a subtle gradient of grey, while the fisherman is stark against the paper in a solid yellow. As he pulls on his catch, the true size of which is revealed to the viewer, his face is still passive, perhaps just before realizing what he has on his line.
