Robert Davidson is one of Canada’s most celebrated and decorated artists. He is considered among the world’s greatest wood carvers, producing totem poles, masks and panels at an elite level. He has also built a market for both paintings and limited edition prints which are currently featured in the exhibition Guud San Glans Robert Davidson A Line that Bends But Does Not Break at the Vancouver Art Gallery and the publication Echoes of the Supernatural – the Graphic Art of Robert Davidson published by Figure 1 Publishers.

From Eagle Drum is one of three drum images (with Twelve Sided Wolf and Four Eagle Trout Heads) produced for the exhibition Robert Davidson – selected prints 1982-190 at the Whatcom Museum of Art in Bellingham, Washington. The designs are based on original painted drums and expanded with added designs using “ghost forms” to fill in the corners -an innovation developed by Robert Davidson.

— Gary Wyatt

At the time of this publication, Guud San Glans Robert Davidson A Line that Bends But Does Not Break is presently on view at the Vancouver Art Gallery until April 16, 2023. For additional information, see https://www.vanartgallery.bc.ca/exhibitions/robert-davidson.

Echoes of the Supernatural – the Graphic Art of Robert Davidson by Gary Wyatt with Robert Davidson (Vancouver: Figure 1 Publishing, 2022), which launched in tandem with the VAG show, is the first publication in more than forty years to afford a retrospective in the Davidson’s remarkable career.
