The Hunt family is an artistic dynasty that has contributed to the success of the modern generation of Northwest Coast art. Tony Hunt was the eldest of 14 children, all of whom would be involved in the art and culture at a high level. Many of their children and grandchildren are also career artists. He would inherit the position of First Carver for Thunderbird Park at the Royal British Columbia Museum, a position created for his grandfather, Mungo Martin, and passed to his father, Henry Hunt. In this role, he would carve numerous totem poles for cultural, national and international sites as well as serve as an ambassador and teacher of the art. He would start the Arts of the Raven Gallery in Victoria and a carving shed nearby to train artists, both projects were intended to elevate the quality being produced as well as teaching work ethic, business acumen followed by the proper display of art work for sale. Tony was a hereditary chief and active in the ceremonial and political systems for his nation.
