While articulated figures are a common artistic practice throughout the world, only two of the settlements experimented with the technique in the Canadian Arctic with some degree of regularity. Some of the most creative examples were created in Qamani'tuaq by artists such as brothers Luke Iksiktaaryuk and Peter Assivaaryuk as well as Moses Nugyugalik, and William Ukpatiku.
The elaborateness of the scene, to our eye, deserves high praise. Like the great range of motion one would expect to see in a real life scuffle over a catch, the two figures here are pinned at the shoulders to the hands, which are pinned to the fish, as well as at the shoulders and feet.
