Easily one of the more prolific artists from his generation, a much beloved and repeated subject matter of Kananginak Pootoogook's was caribou. As a hunter and keen observer of arctic wildlife, Kananginak's faithful renditions of the animals show the his eye for detail, and often a bit of humour or playfulness. What could have easily been a stiff rendition of a powerful bull caribou, this one has some motion, bellowing at some unseen animal or figure with his head and antlers thrown back.
