One of the unusual aspects of Tigullaraq’s style is the resolute blockiness of his figures. Works like this one appear almost as if they might have been carved from square-cut blocks of stone, but this was absolutely not the case. Remarkably, the sculptures were carved from completely irregular chunks of stone. In other words, the sculpture’s look reflects not laziness or lack of skill on the part of the artist but rather his unique vision.

Although the figures of the woman and seal are recognizable, they are not particularly “naturalistic.” Eschewing detail and prettiness, Tigullaraq has instead emphasized the woman’s power and solidity. She is strong enough to hold the seal as if it were a bundle of twigs. Her facial features are minimally carved yet highly expressive.
