Born on the Couchiching Reserve in Ontario, and influenced by the Professional Native Indian Artists Inc., Wayne Yerxa works in acrylic, ink, silkscreen, and limited edition lithographs. As a painter and printmaker of many traditional Ojibwe legends and characters such as the Windigo, wolf dancer, otter, and spirit owl. In The Dream and the Dreamer, we see a graceful figure that has been delicately rendered in acrylic. While the colour itself is bold, the fine lines of patterning and crosshatching in black paint give the work a wonderful sense of texture and depth.
