Pacific Spirit, 2000 was released as the fundraiser and logo (for t-shirts and posters) for the annual Pacific Spirit 10 km run through Pacific Spirit Park and the UBC endowment lands. This race supports fundraising for local hospital charities and Susan Point supported the event with a logo and fundraising for over a decade. Susan Point would often produce a limited edition print of the same design for sale, promotion and further fund raising.

“This image, as all images that I have made for the Pacific Spirit Run,” directly relates to the area where the run takes place. It represents tree frogs, which are abundant in the UBC Endowment Lands. Frogs are significant for the Coast Salish people. They relate to the season of spiritual dancing in our longhouse during the winter months. The design also portrays coming together. Although at first glance, the design may appear to be a repeat design there are subtle differences within each frog, just as there are cultural differences among those who participate in the annual run.”

– Susan Point in Susan Point – Coast Salish Artist, 2000, page 116, Douglas & McIntyre Press

Susan Point is one of Canada’s most decorated artists and she has been honoured for her work supporting women’s issues and countless charitable causes. She has received more public art commissions than any other Canadian artist with many more projects in the planning or execution phase. She has released several limited- edition prints each year beginning in 1981.

Pacific Spirit, 2000 is documented in the books: Susan Point – Coast Salish Artist (page 116-117), Michael Kew, Peter Macnair, Vesta Giles and Bill McLennan, Douglas & McIntyre Publishers, 2000 and Susan Point – Works on Paper (page 124), Dale Croes, Susan Point and Gary Wyatt, Figure 1 Publishers, 2014.
