In yet another wonderful depiction of arctic wildlife (see lot 28, Tumbling Walrus), Kananginak presents us with a vigilant mother bear followed by her two seemingly distracted offspring. While the subject matter is undeniably attractive, the execution of the image is a printmakers tour de force. The print dates to 2004 but visibly has its roots in the earliest Cape Dorset prints produced under the eye of James Houston immediately after his trip to Japan to study printmaking. The night sky is simply glorious, and one must certainly give credit to Qiatsuq Niviaqsi for his collaboration on this work. Fabulous!
