Inquisitive Owl showcases one of Kenojuak’s preferred themes, featuring the owl in a state of curiosity or, perhaps, astonishment. Its erect feathers, encircling its head, bear a humorous, dishevelled look, reminiscent of a woman's unkempt hair adorned with antlers. The owl's expansive, yellow eyes appear to scrutinize its surroundings. The solitary bird's considerable size draws us into an appreciation of colour and texture interplay: the vibrant orange of its form blending and fading into the stark white of the sheet; the rich red bleeding into the black of its wings; the lustrous blue of the plumage on its head, enveloped on both sides by dense black ink.
