Tim Pitsiulak was both an artist and a hunter, and like some of his predecessors in Kinngait (Kananginak Pootoogook leaps immediately to mind), his knowledge of the animals and the land around his native southern Baffin Island was encyclopedic, allowing for some beautiful true to life details in his works. This walrus, with its upper half possibly still above water, begins diving into the frigid waters, with what may be a smile!
