Niviaqsi's legacy is inextricably woven with the Polar Bear, a connection that resonates powerfully through this magnificent print. In Two Bears Hunting we encounter two white polar bear forms that are gracefully simplified, their contours flowing without unnecessary detail. The left bear stands with an air of quiet strength, while the one on the right is presented in a bowing posture, engaged in an act of scenting or foraging or, perhaps, play. The starkness of their white bodies against the blue ground is arresting, emphasizing their presence and drawing the viewer's gaze. The brilliant blue inked background is punctuated with uninked spots that expose the sheet beneath to create a visual effect that is reminiscent of stars or gently falling snow.

Two Bears Hunting is part of the Dorset Series, a collection of approximately seventy prints also referred to as the Dorset Collection, Northern Collection, or Northern Releases. Unlike the catalogued annual Cape Dorset print collections, these prints were not distributed through southern galleries. Instead, they were sold locally and informally to visitors via the West Baffin Eskimo Co-op, making them relatively rare in the art market compared to the more widely available "regular" prints.
