Much like his contemporary from Nunavik Matiusie Iyaituk, Tukiki Manumie was an early pioneer of contemporary abstraction in Kinngait. Best known for his sinuous bird compositions and transformations, Tukiki also experimented with pure abstraction. This lovely example, but for an almost imperceptible seal head is almost totally non-representational and seems a delightful experimentation of elegant line and negative space. Charming!
