Ravens Entwined is at once a classic work by Kenojuak Ashevak, and a modern, contemporary rendition of her forms and design. Symmetrical in its almost mirrored layout, a collection of wriggling necks weave and wave around each other, some connected to partners across the page while others seem to materialize from nowhere. Printed by a long time collaborator of Kenojuak’s, Pitseolak Niviaqsi, the process of lithography has allowed for every directional stroke of the pencil to be seen, adding an almost feather-like texture to the ravens in the work. As was her way for so long, this work is a veritable rainbow of hues to highlight each raven, but the work on a whole is still harmonious in the chaos. With beaks ajar, one can only imagine the noise created by this knot of ravens to be quite something, either a choir or a riot!
