In Salmon Return, motion is captured midstream and made still, suspended within a frame of carved cedar. Two salmon arc through the negative space with a rhythmic precision that recalls both current and choreography. The hammered cedar bark encircling the frame twists like rushing water, full of kinetic energy, yet also serves as a stabilizing border. Each curve of the fish echoes the grain of the wood, creating a dialogue between natural form and artistic intent. The polished copper insets shimmer like droplets or river stones, further grounding the composition in the fluid world it evokes.
