An admirer of the master sculptors around him, George Arluk began his carving career from a very young age by emulating Tiktak, and later Pangnark and Lucy Tasseor. As Arluk matured, so too did his art and his own distinct style. Many will point to his sense of dynamic movement and abstract forms as hallmarks of a work by Arluk. While some works can fall deep into abstraction, some have a touch of realism with accentuated shapes and forms, this Muskox being a charming example. The dark, black stone highlights the curves of the muskox’s back and horns while the animal stands still, staring out from gently scratched in eyes.
