Ohaituk was born in Inukjuak in 1946 and is a distinguished second-generation sculptor and printmaker. While his work generally focuses on images of people and animals, he occasionally delves into the spirit world. This intriguing sculpture depicts a fantastical creature with a birdlike head atop a svelte, elongated, four-legged body. While carved and smoothly finished in a stone common to Inukjuak, one might be forgiven for mistaking this work for that of Puvirnituq’s Eli Sallualu Qinuajua.
