Likely heavily influenced by many of the one hundred species of birds in their hometown of Naujaat, Jean-Marie Ivalutannar Oksokitok’s penchant for carving avian subjects is well founded. This Alert Bird could well be a local, perched on a rock or hydro wire in town, with its wings slightly open before taking off. Rather than polish the stone’s surface into flat planes, Alert Bird’s feathers are highlighted and individually carved, further bringing life to this static figure.
