Osuitok was very proud of Sangani, occasionally suggesting that his son would eventually surpass him. While it turned out that Sangani eventually became an only occasional carver, the father and son did work together closely in the mid 1980s. The influence of Osuitok is clearly in evidence here, not only in Sangani’s choice of subject matter but also in the boldly posed and rather stylized representation of the hawk. The bird’s truncated wings and exaggerated wings make for a bold sculptural statement.
