There are, however, several wonderful exceptions which disprove the rule, including several examples from the latter half of the 1960s, that depict figures in a crouching position. In this sterling and highly expressive work the man is depicted in a hunched position, with mouth agape. Is this fellow doubled over in pain, or is he perhaps huddled in fear at the sight of some awful danger or apparition? Wonderful!Provenance
