Here, the entrancing pattern of shapes that constitute Ittulaka’naaq’s figures are heightened with colour. Notably, this work features a compositional element that is seemingly unique to Ittulaka’naaq’s works: a head in the centre of the abdomen of an Inuk. Ittulaka’naaq’s intention for the motif is unclear but we can certainly speculate. Perhaps it is representative of pregnancy or the influence of a guiding spirit. Or, perhaps, it is merely a motif the artist found pleasing.
