Kingmeata began to draw and carve in the late 1950s, after half a lifetime living on the land on southern Baffin Island; in fact she only permanently moved into the community of Cape Dorset in the mid 1960s. Over a period of about twenty years from 1969 until the late 1980s more than fifty prints were based on Kingmeata’s lively drawings. Kingmeata also experimented with watercolour and acrylic wash painting, enthusiastically working with the southern visiting artist K.M. Graham. The delightful Spirits at Play is one of her earliest prints.
