Like Joanasi Kayakjuak’s Caribou, this sculpture by the Nunavik artist Sammy Nassak has a true naïve folk art charm that was appreciated by the pioneer Inuit art scholar George Swinton. Although not anatomically perfect—one could argue that the figure is slightly horse-like!—Nassak’s young caribou is beautifully carved, and is imbued with a real personality.
