KIAKSHUK (1886-1966) KINNGAIT (CAPE DORSET)

Chasing Geese Into Pens, 1964 (2012 #4)
Printmaker: LUKTA QIATSUK (1928-2004) KINNGAIT (CAPE DORSET)
stonecut and stencil, 24.5 x 34.25 in (62.2 x 87 cm)
9/50
LOT 21
ESTIMATE: $1,500 — $2,500
The 1960 Cape Dorset print collection featured a magnificent Kiakshuk entitled Driving Moulting Geese into Stone Pens. Kiakshuk revisited the subject in 1964 and the resulting Chasing Geese into Pens sat unreleased by the co-op until 2012. This striking image, like Stone Images Mark the Western Route (lot 19) shows Kiakshuks interest in the collaborative nature of Inuit camp life. Interestingly, Kiakshuk’s contemporary Jamasee Teevee also produced three graphics depicting the same subject.
