We have spoken before of Annie Piklak Taipanak’s densely stitched works on felt and wool, as well as the contrast that can be found in the present example by contrast to her canon of work. Here, however, careful and thought out placement partners with a reserved use of materials to create this pack of horned spirits that faces the viewer. The repeated pattern of the spirits is broken up by the different colours used for the spirits themselves and the outlining stitching around their forms, making them stand out further against the more neutral ground behind them. Taipanak's repeated expressions on the spirits give a slightly unsettling air to them, with open mouths, agape in song or shout, it's a veritable choir.
