Nuyaliaq Qimirpik is known for both animal subjects and imaginative spirit carvings, and was among the leading figures in a small group of Kimmirut carvers active in the late 1960s, including his brother Shorty Killiktee.
Smoothly modelled in mottled olive-green stone, in the present work, the creature appears gently posed in a moment of drowsy transition, as though just stirring from a nap, its charm lying in that sleepy, unguarded grace. Lovely.
