UNIDENTIFIED INUIT ARTIST, EASTERN CANADIAN ARCTIC
ESTIMATE: $150 — $250
This finely fashioned model kayak is accompanied by an unusually extensive group of miniature hunting and boating implements, including a double-bladed paddle and several harpoon-like tools. Carved primarily from organic material, each element is carefully shaped to suggest the specialized equipment used in traditional kayak hunting. The kayak itself is slender and beautifully proportioned, its long hull and narrow profile retaining a convincing sense of balance despite the reduced scale. The separate implements add both visual interest and documentary value, turning the group into a small but remarkably complete record of hunting technology and boat design.
