When presented with Lot 78 in this sale, it is easy to think that this bag is less decorated than its counterpart. Indeed it is smaller, but there is something to be said for the intention of "less is more." This work features a carefully repeated design from one side to the other, rather than a mirrored design or an approximation of what the first side was. A hand pleated ribbon tops the opening of the bag, but in the same direction on each side, further tricking eye into questioning which view of the bag you have. The bag itself does have a subtle tell from one side to the other, as the maker has alternated the colours in the lengths of beaded trim along the edges. The design work on this bag as a whole is well thought out and carefully placed, showing that skill and patience can also pay off in a final product.
