Lillooet weavers have long been renowned for their coiled and imbricated baskets. But for collectors, condition is everything. The durability of Interior Salish baskets, owing to their rigid construction, is contrasted with the relative fragility of their imbricated patterns as the materials have aged. As such, the quality and desirability of Interior Salish baskets are measured by both the complexity and density of the original design and how intact those patterns remain today. By those metrics, this present basket stands as an exceptional example of the form.

The basket is an unusual open oval shape with added handles featuring a repeating double sawtooth or stepped pattern alternating between black and red. It is in excellent condition with only minor losses to some imbrication and no exposed coil fibers.
