Although originally only found in Southeast Alaska and Northern British Columbia, by the mid-20th century, totem poles had become inextricably tied to the public’s conception of Indigeneity in the whole Northwest Coast region (from Oregon to Alaska), with many Native communities creating model totem poles as souvenirs for these visitors. This model pole is likely by a Coast Salish artist from Washington State. It features a Thunderbird over a Bear holding a Frog. The pole is painted in black, red, yellow, green, and white and is mounted to a chamfered base.
