Sadly separated from their respective bodies, these two lids are no less fascinating as studies of weaving technique. The larger lid's weave steps down to the right and its decoration sits atop it thanks to falsely embroidered stitches. The weave itself is tight against itself to ensure no water or light can escape between the warps and wefts. The smaller lid is richly covered with more false embroidery, showing not only a coloured spiral, but textured lines to delineate the waves of colours as well. Both lids are skillfully done without a speck of their respective decorations showing on the inside of them, a study in patience and skill to be sure.
