In this work, Malliki gives the seal a pronounced sense of mass while preserving the animal’s sleek, tapering form. The body is long and low, with small flippers, a softly modelled head, and a broad tail that closes the silhouette with satisfying weight. Detail is spare, allowing the stone itself to become part of the animal’s appearance. Its mottled surface suggests the spotted, shifting colour of a seal’s coat, while the smooth, stretched body seems almost shaped by water.
